MY NAME IS SIMON CROSS
AN UNEXPECTED VISIT
”That explain why hes new ”, I muttered to myself.
”What did you say? ”, He asked me
”Uh…Nothing. How is your daughter by the way? ”,
”Fine but she still hasn sent a word yet ”, He said taking a seat beside me which I understood to be a tactical way of keeping watch on his new waiter and brushed aside mild drops of sweat with his blue napkin which he took from his black trouser while I adjusted my hands on the table, resting my torso on its edge in order to give me enough space to gaze at his huge white face. The pleasant aroma in the restaurant was nice and satisfactory which preoccupied my nose and got my stomach reeling in hunger but I manage to calm down my appetite and wait to hear more from an old acquaintance.
”Yeah, and Im really getting pissed waiting for her to call ”,
”Why don you call her instead? ”, I suggested,
”I can ”, he replied taking shufti glances at the back door which was still waiting to be opened by the awaited waiter.
”Why can you? ”,
”She told me not to the last time I phoned ”,
”That sucks, dude ”, I responded and moved my hands a bit closer to the edge of the table before looking over his fat head, towards the door as it slightly opened for Mario to enter the banquet hall, which started to become scanty, with a silver tray containing the dish I had ordered while his boss kept peering at him with eyes of an eagle until the inevitable occurred which might have resulted from his lack of concentration or his timidness. I presumed his eyes must have seen the ferociousness in the red eyes of Mr. Wong which made him miss two steps before crashing into one of the guests who was a woman dressed in an expensive black blouse that got ruined by the delicacy. The once quiet and calm hall soon thrown into a rowdy confusion of incessant murmuring amongst the guest after the accidental collision took place, creating an aura of dismay and anger in the eyes of the owner and few guests as well who were related to the victim while the culprit stood motionless beside the quarrelsome woman and her husband, very much unable to move or utter any word in his defense but stood there with his mouth gaped open while staring blankly at the mess and the broken chair on the soiled carpet. At that moment, I knew Mr. Wong will sprang into imminent action in order to strictly discipline the new waiter right there without paying attention to the attractive eyes of other customers just like he did to the former waiter few years back before the frustrated waiter resigned two weeks ago and I decided to intervene even though I had already done something like what I was about to the do the first time this year, making it the second time I had to save someone from getting beaten up into pulp by the old timer.
A surreptitious but quick snap of my right index fingers together with my thumb, froze time as well as the entire guest including Mr. Wong as he was lifting his huge body from the small seat, the quarrelsome victim whose mouth remained wide open in an effort to spat out her next harsh word which refused to come out of her thin strain throat and everyone in the room except for myself and I got up slowly looking at the blunt, frozen faces of the customers at each table in the hall while the music had stopped rolling in the background allowing a dead silence which soon enveloped the entire restaurant. I could only listen to the noisy horn of accelerating cars outside the restaurant as I make my way through the frozen humans leaving Mr. Wong helplessly stranded at my table behind me until I arrived at the collision point where Mario stood, still frozen his obliviousness and moved my eyes towards the woman whose throat displayed quite a lot of strained veins. Then I wasted no time in lifting my hands upwards and shut my eyes close waiting for an aura of pale white light which soon filled the hall, bringing forth everything backwards to its former position including the tiny particles of grub on the carpet that soon gather together to formed the spilled sushi while the woman returned to her former position before the incident occurred, even her husband went back to his seat in a backward movement but I still kept my eyes shut. Everything went back the way it was before the accident took place except for myself who remained standing still for some time until I sensed the complete use of my last gift given to me by the stranger whom I had met centuries ago.
Having used up all the power from the time orb to revert everyone back to their former position including the spilled food which eventually found its way back again on top of the silver tray that was held by Mario, I slowly went back to my seat ignoring the watchful eyes of the little boy outside the restaurant and sat down behind Mr. Wong exactly the way g used up all the power from the time orb to revert everyone back to their former position including the spilled food which eventually found its way back again on top of the silver tray that was held by Mario, I slowly went back to my seat ignoring the watchful eyes of the little boy outside the restaurant and sat down behind Mr. Wong exactly the way I sitted before I left to carry out queer changes at the middle of the banquet hall but everyone was still frozen in their spot waiting for me to finished what I had started.
